When Piz Gloria was built, it was claimed that the restaurant was the first revolving restaurant in the world. Piz Gloria’s restaurant may have gained its reputation after appearing in parts of the James Bond film in 1969, but in addition to that, the view that this restaurant is in the mountains and mountain peaks of the Swiss Alps is very spectacular, causing To make this restaurant a tourist attraction. This restaurant is located in Luther Bronn, a village just a short distance from Interlaken.
The restaurant has kept the name of Piz Gloria , from the shooting of the James Bond movie, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, at the end of its construction, and owes much of its reputation to this film. Moreover, the lower floor of the restaurant offers an exhibition called “BOND WORLD 007” dedicated to James Bond with videos taken from the film. Access to this restaurant is by a cable car from Stechelberg to the place called Lengwald, located at 867 m altitude. The climb lasts about thirty minutes and begins along a nearly vertical cliff of about 400 m high. The cable is from 2103 m in four steps (Stechelberg – Gimmelwald (en) – Mürren – Birg – Schilthorn), covering a total distance of about 7 km .
The cable car and the restaurant were built by Bernese architect, Konrad Wolf in 1969. Due to the difficult working conditions, construction units had to be largely prefabricated. The rotation mechanism is set so that all the guests can have a view of the entire outdoor panorama during a meal of average an hour. The restaurant was enlarged around 1990 to serve four hundred meals, but it kept its original character.
