In case you seek a place that provides you with an opportunity to employ qualified professionals, you must know that international rankings consider Switzerland and particularly the Zurich Area to be one of the most appealing regions for skilled intelligent workers.

In order for a company to be successful, one of the most important contributing factors is the availability of skillful and talented individuals and professionals, which must be taken into account when selecting a place to establish the company. As pointed out by the INSEAD Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2019 and the IMD World Talent Ranking 2018, Switzerland and specifically, the Zurich region, is an ideal location to attract skilled workers who will stay there and improve themselves. Some of the reasons for this ideal atmosphere are the wonderful Swiss education system, free movement of persons agreement with the European Union, the international environment, the favorable conditions for both employers and employees, social mobility and a high standard of living.

What is the reason that so many intelligent professionals are attracted to Zurich?

The Zurich Area and its neighbours are appealing to skilled professionals. According to Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2020, Zurich is among the top 20 in the 17th place. This area in Switzerland enjoys a high standard of living, great infrastructure and a multitude of work opportunities for skilled professionals, which is the reason for its high score in the years that have gone by. Moreover, considering that salaries are the same throughout Europe and Switzerland has lower individual tax, it is more appealing to high-income professionals. Employers also consider Zurich region to be excellent for hiring the best workers. It might seem that employment is more expensive in Switzerland, but considering the low tax and social security, one realizes that it is actually cheaper than other big cities like Hong Kong, Berlin or Amsterdam.

Another issue that contributes to the progress of business in Zurich is the fact that companies such as Google, Microsoft, IBM and start-ups are trying to develop their business endeavors in this area. For instance, Zurich is Google’s biggest development base outside the US with more than 2500 employees that come from 75 different nationalities. As the ETH and other universities are located here, companies such as Google, Roche, Novartis, Disney Research, ABB and Microsoft find this area appealing.

Excellent educational system

The dual educational system in Switzerland is strong and successful. After graduating from school, people can complete three to four years of apprenticeship in a company, which is what 60% of young graduates choose to do. During this period, they have an active role in the company and learn invaluable practical skills that they can use in their future careers. Simultaneously, they study at a vocational school, which further enhances and enriches their theoretical knowledge and education. Around 14,500 bachelor’s degrees, 14,000 master’s degrees and 4000 doctorates are awarded annually by Swiss Universities. An additional 16,000 bachelor’s and master’s degrees are also granted to applied science graduates every year. The Swiss German region is an educational and academic center thanks to its great universities such as the ETH, the University of Zurich and many universities of applied science.

Diversity in culture and language

Another special characteristic of Switzerland, the variety of cultures and languages. The reason for this is that German, French, Italian, and Romansh are all considered official languages and employees can generally speak more than two languages and communicate with people of various cultural backgrounds. English is also considered an international language and the second most common language in Zurich.
